Situated on the northern shores of Ullswater in the hamlet of Watermillock, No 3 Gowbarrow Cottages is one of three stone-built cottages dating back to 1922. They were formerly used as accommodation for staff working at the nearby Leeming House (now a hotel). Each has a pretty garden to the front, which offers great views of the fells.
No 3 is the end terrace cottage, which spans two floors. The ground floor comprises a fully-equipped kitchen at the back of the building, with modern appliances, including the all-important dishwasher (who wants to do the dishes on holiday, right?).
To the front of the building is the open-plan living room and dining room, a brilliant space for family or friends to gather for a meal or perhaps to relax in front of the roaring wood-burning fire while watching a film on Netflix. The views of the garden and the fells from the living room area are wonderful. Upstairs are the three bedrooms: One king-size double and two twin bedrooms.
There is lots to do in the Ullswater area; nearby is Aira Force, a special series of waterfalls accessed via a walking trail that continues to Gowbarrow Fell. On the lakeshore is Airaforce Jetty; from here, you can hop in board one of the Ullswater Steamers and sail north to Pooley Bridge, where you'll find a great choice of pubs, cafes, and a few shops, or south to Glenridding, which also offers a good choice of places to eat.
Penrith and Keswick are within easy reach if you fancy exploring a bit further afield. These are much larger towns, and here you will find lots of shops, restaurants, and a few supermarkets.
Overall, Gowbarrow Cottages offers great accommodation in a fantastic location! This property can be rented alongside No 2 Gowbarrow Cottages, located next door and sleeping six guests - perfect for a holiday with friends or family while maintaining an element of privacy.
