Situated in Armathwaite, a picturesque village that spans both banks of the River Eden, you're within easy reach of Penrith and the Rheged Discovery Centre, Carlisle City, Ullswater and the Ullswater Steamers and the northern reaches of the beautiful Eden Valley.
There is something for everyone locally; the village has two pubs, both serving great food, a post office and a traditional village shop. The local railway station (5-minutes walk from the cottage) is a stop on the
Settle-to-Carlisle Railway, which is one of the most beautiful railway journeys in Britain, and where today many old steam trains still wend their way through some of the finest countrysides in Britain
The River Eden is renowned for its excellent salmon fishing, plus walking, canoeing and climbing. Armathwaite Castle, by the river, is a four-storey Pele Tower, and the 15th Century Church has fine examples of stained glass windows.
The Eden Gorge, between Lazonby and Armathwaite, is one of Cumbria's best-kept secrets and is well worth exploring.
