Farm Cottage

Kirkby in Furness
Sleeps 6
Bedrooms 3
Dog Friendly
Farm Cottage is a lovely 3-bedroom holiday home situated in Kirkby-In-Furness, a rural village in the Southwest regions of Cumbria, yet only a short distance from the Lake District National Park.

Visitors often associate the Lakes with the popular towns of Ambleside, Windermere, Coniston and Keswick - all equally stunning, but the rural side of Cumbria is equally as spectacular. Fabulous views and plenty of scenic low-level walks, yet still close to the popular attractions. The Kirkby-in-Furness train station is just 5-minutes walk away with links to many other coast towns and villages.

The charming property spans two floors; on the ground floor is the open-plan kitchen and dining area, a great space with modern appliances for everyone to gather for a family meal, or perhaps just the adults while the kids watch Netflix in the spacious living room next door. A feature of the living room is the large floor-to-ceiling windows with views of the fells. Also on the ground floor is the bathroom with a bath and shower over.

Up the 13 carpeted steps to the first floor, you'll find three beautiful bedrooms, a double and a twin, and the third bedroom consists of bunk beds. The large wet room is also on the first floor with a shower, toilet, basin and a heated towel rail.

Outside is the enclosed garden, with an outdoor table and chairs, perfect for alfresco dining or just chilling in the sunshine with a good book.

Overall, the house has been thoughtfully set out to provide great accommodation for your holiday in the Lakes.

Kirkby in Furness

About the location

Kirkby-in-Furness is a rural village in the Furness region of Cumbria and a short distance from Ulverston, the Dudden Estuary and the stunning western coastal regions.

Being rural, the area is less busy than the central Lakes, and that comes with its own charm, especially if you're looking for a quieter getaway. We recommend you visit the two brilliant village pubs within easy walking distance. Also within walking distance, 3 miles along a coastal path, is Dunnerholme where you'll find a fantastic sandy beach and the nearby village of Askham--in-Furness.

If you do fancy exploring further into the Lakes by car, the nearby A595 provides quick links to popular locations including:
  • Coniston (12 Miles) where you'll find a great selection of pubs, cafes and walking routes including Coniston Old Man. For a scenic boat trip on Coniston Water then hop on board from the Coniston Launch.
  • Ulverston (5 Miles) is a lovely market town with a labyrinth of cobbled streets and several shops, pubs and restaurants. Ulverston is the birthplace of Stan Laurel of Laurel & Hardy! A popular attraction is the Sir John Barrow Monument at the top of Hoad Hill. It's a short climb to the monument but the views are breathtaking on a clear day.
  • Newby Bridge (12 Miles) is a small village at the southern tip of Lake Windermere. Here you will find the Lakes Aquarium and the Haverthwaite Stream Train. Alternatively, hop on board one of the Windermere Lake Cruise boats and sail north to Bowness, Brockhole or Ambleside.
Another great way to explore the area is by train. Kirkby-in-Furness is a stop on the Cumbrian Coast Railway line that runs from Barrow to Carlisle, hugging the coast for most of the journey, stopping at stations including Ravelglass, where you can switch the La'al Ratty train into the Eskdale valley.

You'll be spoilt for choice when it comes to staying at Kirkby-in-Funess - there is so much to see and do locally to make the most of your Lake District cottage holiday!
