This charming village boasts a rich history, an idyllic location, and a peaceful atmosphere, making it the perfect destination for a relaxing escape. Activities include off the beaten track country walks or a great network of quiet lanes for cycling. There is also a very well regarded pub (The White Horse) just under two miles away in Kings Meaburn
A Village Steeped in History
Maulds Meaburn's story stretches back to the 12th century when King Henry II divided the lands of Meaburn. One portion went to Sir Hugh de Morville, and the other to his sister, Maud de Veteripont. Sir Hugh's favour waned, leading the King to reclaim his land, which became known as King's Meaburn. Maud's land, however, remained hers; thus, Maulds Meaburn was born. The village has passed through various families over the centuries, adding layers to its unique heritage. It is a lovely spot to relax with the River Lyvvenet running through the meadowland that separates the two parts of the village.
A Tranquil Escape in the Dales
Beauty lies in its serenity. The village itself is a delightful collection of traditional cottages lining the banks of the river. The surrounding landscape is a tapestry of rolling hills, lush meadows, and an 'undiscovered' feel. Despite its tranquillity, Maulds Meaburn isn't isolated. The village is conveniently located just 13 miles from the bustling town of Penrith (close to Ullswater), offering a range of shops, cafes, and historical attractions. The nearby small market town of Appleby-in-Westmorland is an attractive and historic place, famous for the annual Appleby Horse Fair in early June.
